South African National Action Plan on Women, Peace & Security Agenda
Patsy Daniels, initiator and convener of the event put the emphasis on how we need to advocate for 365 days of No Violence Against Women and Children; that more women lose their lives during and after the 16 Days annual event is over; that this need to change to curb violence in our society and country.
South is labelled “a violent country”, and that the South African National Action Plan on Women, Peace & Security Agenda is being localised in the community of Manenberg, to get more women empowered on the ground to take the peace agenda forward.
The Impact of Gender Based Violence
Marian Kinnes, who had years in Lay Counselling experience laid emphasis on the impact of GBV had on the mental state of specifically women, and how it affected the entire household and society.
16 Days of No Violence Against Women and Children
Two Workshops and a Picketing Event was held which was well attended by the community surrounding the Letaba Park in Manenberg.
- The Theme for the Workshop was - WHAT IS GBV, HOW DO WE PREVENT IT & CREATE A PEACE AGENDA?
- The Theme for the Picketing was - WE ADVOCATE FOR 365 DAYS OF NO VIOLENCE! YES TO PEACE!
- Followed by the sweater slogan - WE ADVOCATE FOR 365 DAYS OF NO VIOLENCE! NO TO SILENCE! NO TO VIOLENCE!
We cannot again be passive for the rest of the year, especially as we go into the festive season, where violence is the order.
Let us change the narrative and contribute to peacebuilding wherever we are!! At home! On the beach! in church! On holiday!
Let us all continue to advocate for 365 Days of No Violence. We can do it!
Let's be the change we wish to see!
YES TO PEACE! DO NO HARM!
